Austin BBQ

When an unexpected double hip replacement ended my 20 year career as a chef in 2016, I turned to my passion, BBQ. Austin has been my adopted city since 2010, and through the years I've made it my mission to try all the BBQ it has to offer. Now I'd like to bring you along to learn about the history, meet some of the fantastic proprietors, and eat the delicious food. The first thing everyone asks when they come to town is "Where's the best BBQ?" and now you don't have to pick just one!

I know plenty of great travel tips and hidden spots, so join a guided tour and get ready for an unforgettable experience. Designing your own private tour is also an option, and I am here to listen to all of your requests. Get in touch today and explore a new way of traveling with Chef Z BBQ Food Tours.

  • Do you visit Franklin's?
While Franklin's makes excellent BBQ, it's part of a long tradition of excellent BBQ in Austin. This is an opportunity to explore some other styles and techniques. Also, nobody skips the line at Franklin's except President Obama and he paid for everyone behind him's food and we just aren't that big yet.
  • What time and where does the tour start?
The tour starts at 12 noon so that we can skip the lunch rush and get customized service.
  • How long is the tour?
We expect each tour to take 3-3.5 hours
  • How many stops are on the tour?
We design each tour based on a variety of conditions (weather, what restaurants are open on which days, etc), but we expect to make at least 3-4 stops each tour.
  • Can you pick up from hotels/Airbnbs?
Custom pick-up and drop-off is available for a fee. Please contact us in advance and we can work something out.
  • Is there parking at the starting/ending point?
Enter your answer to the question here. Make sure the writing is clear and concise, and helps visitors get the support they need in the most efficient way. Consider elaborating with examples or visual aids to ensure all users fully understand the information.
  • What is provided on the tour?
We will provide all of the tasting food and bottled water. You can always purchase additional food at the restaurants and also beer or other beverages they may have. If you have a special need in this area, please contact us ahead of time and we will make our best effort to accommodate.
  • When should I make a reservation?
Since our tours are small, they can fill up fast. We also only do one tour per day, whether group or private, so if your window is narrow, book as soon as you can.
  • What do I need to bring for the tour?
Just your appetite and thirst for knowledge.
  • Can I get alcohol on the tour?
Our friends in the insurance industry don't allow us to provide you alcohol or allow an open container in the car. Most of the restaurants we will visit offer at least a beer selection that you can take advantage of separately.
  • What if it's raining?
On rainy days (and exceedingly hot days) we will route the tour to only include restaurants that offer indoor seating. Again, if you have a special need in this area, please let us know when you book so we can plan accordingly.
  • Can I bring my luggage?
We know from our own travel experience, what to do with luggage can be tricky. Please contact us in advance and we will make every effort to accommodate you, but we also have limited space in the vehicle and we want all of our guests to be as comfortable as possible.
  • Are kids welcome?
We are a family business and welcome all families aboard.
  • Do you provide car seats?
We do not provide infant car seats, but do have a booster sear for older kids. Please contact us in advance or let us know at booking, though, so we can make sure it meets your standards and that we bring it the day of the tour.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
We offer a 100% refund if you cancel at least 7 days in advance or more and a 50% refund for tours that are cancelled between 3 and 6 days of your scheduled tour. All tours cancelled within 48 hours of scheduled departure are non-refundable. We also offer rescheduling options for a future date tour without penalty. Contact us if you have any questions.
  • How do we pay for the Private Tour?
If the day and times are available, you can pay directly through our website using a credit card or PayPal. Book here.
  • Is your site secure for payments?
Yes, all payments are secure. We use PayPal or a third party processor so we never see your credit card number and they do not store them.
  • Can we leave a tip for the tour guide?
Tips are gladly accepted. Suggested gratuity is 15-20%.
  • Do I need a ticket?
No, just your first and last name as it appears on the booking will be enough.
  • What is an FAQ section?
An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
